Every September, people from all around the Puget Sound region flock to the Washington State Fair (aka the Puyallup Fair for those of us who have been here awhile). The fair is a BIG deal around here—it’s one of the largest fairs in the entire country, and every year, ~1 million people attend. (Yes, seriously!)

There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re heading to the fair just for the indulgent food or you want to pet the piggies. Here’s just a FEW not-to-miss highlights if you plan on heading to Puyallup this year!
ADORABLE ANIMALS
One of Amber’s very favorite things about the fair is the Piglet Palace. Stop by to see the cutest little piggies, and some of them are even born at the fair. Awww!

Another one of Amber’s favorite things is the Animals of the World exhibit, and you can see everything from camels and zebras to yaks and watusi (what’s a watusi?). The draft horses are another favorite—they’re huge! Here’s where to find them.

FAIR FOOD FTW
Let’s just say you’ll probably need to ~detox~ for about a week after eating your way through the fair, but eating fair food is part of what it’s all about. Deep fried butter, anyone?

Elephant ears, funnel cakes, turkey legs, scones (the scone lines get outrageously LONG but it’s worth the wait), and krusty pups are a few Puyallup Fair classics. Pace yourself!
The Fisher scones are a must… buy a dozen to take home, they heat up great for breakfast the next morning and you can even freeze them if you just can’t get enough:

Yes, THIS is an elephant ear… maybe don’t go on the roller coaster right after eating this…

RIDES TO REMEMBER
We’re all about awesome views when it comes to the rides. The ferris wheel and the swings offer photo-worthy views of the entire fairgrounds, and we recommend going at night when you can see all of the lights.

SHOWS GALORE
The rodeo offers a classic fair experience (go at least once to really get that fair experience!), and the fair’s concert series also attracts some big names each year. Tickets to these types of events also include admission to the fair (which is $14 for adults).
